Chess is for everyone!
As a homeschool co-op teacher, I've taught the game of chess to students ages 5 to 18 for the past ten years. Students are hungry for the knowledge, but I often find parents are intimidated and struggling to join in on our games. Parents want their kids to learn to play chess, but often opt out for themselves.
I'd love to teach your whole family to play chess, so that you can learn and grow together through critical thinking and reasoning. I'll show you step-by-step how to start playing as a family!

Hi, I'm Amanda!
I'm a homeschool mom and math teacher, and I LOVE games. My family's collection of board and card games is somewhat ridiculous, and is generally added to every birthday and Christmas as we discover new games to try out. Some of our current favorites are Splendor, Colt Express, Here to Slay, Texas Hold 'Em, and 42 (Dominoes). My son and I enjoy trying to beat my dad at chess. I've never been successful, even though I've been trying for nearly 30 years.
Unless a game is all luck (eewwww + eye roll), you can be assured that math will be a part of good strategy. Playing games helps build critical thinking and problem solving skills and gives lots of opportunity for students to practice math! I'm all in when it comes to using games to teach.
